Herren Tunnel, Lübeck

The Herren Tunnel in Lübeck is almost a kilometer long, and is one the first toll roads in Germany. It replaces a dilapidated bascule bridge, and it passes underneath the River Trave. HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions is operating the new tunnel. It has been opened for traffic since August 2005. The project company Herrentunnel Lübeck GmbH & Co. KG ensures a smooth, uninterrupted flow of traffic, and is responsible for maintaining the structure. After the term of the contract runs out, the tunnel will be transferred to the Hanseatic City of Lübeck. The investment volume of the project is around 78.5 million euros.
